3 Mins read

Over some years now, the world of adolescents and young adults have been flooded by many common terms and words; one of which is the word “dating”. Many secondary school students and tertiary institution students uses the word alike in their conversations and various discussions. Occasionally, when you hear a pal say “I’m dating!” some thoughts run through one’s mind unconsciously even before getting any other information about the relationship. This and many more instances led to the popularity and informal education of the general concept of dating among youths. In this series, we want to analyze the concept of what we term ‘dating’ and its features. What the word of God has to say about its concept will also be addressed. Finally, useful solutions and words of advice shall also be rendered to the youths out there on whose side to take on this subject using the bible as the final authority. I am more than assured that this piece will be helpful and resourceful to all. Enjoy the lines!

What is dating? I guess this is a direct way of addressing this subject. Dating is the continuous form of the word ‘DATE’. The date being used here is defined by Chambers 21st Century Dictionary as a planned meeting or social outing, usually with a person one is attached to; especially a person whom one is meeting or going out with and who one usually finds attractive. The practice of dating or going out on a date with the opposite sex is actually a foreign culture from the western world. Due to many imitations of the practices of our colonial masters and other foreign influence, dating found itself in the midst of elites in the black man world too. In fact, these days you don’t need to be an elite before you can date, it is now more like a normal thing for an adolescent or young adult to date before settling down in marriage. When explained from its original concept, dating is a mechanized way of getting along with the opposite sex with the aim of settling down with one of the many that have been dated someday. It is a worldly principle that can be pictured as a ‘trial and error’ form of seeking one’s lifetime love.

People believed when you try and date a couple of loving personalities that seem right to you, in the process you can actually painlessly select one of those that have been dated and resolved to settling down with the person as one’s life partner in marriage. So, we can say dating is a form of relationship whereby the two parties consider themselves as potential life partners, having decided to test how things will turn to be based on their feelings and personal tastes. As expected of the dating contract, in case things did not work out as they planned in the course of them knowing each other and rolling on together, separation or heart break is always the way out of such case whereby the search for one’s true love continues as the parties gather the remaining pieces of their hearts and continue in their endless search for true love.

Dating is a form of relationship whereby the two parties consider themselves as potential life partners, having decided to test how things will turn to be based on their feelings and personal tastes.

On the other end, if things turn out to be favourable to them and they really see reasons to continue their love relationship, they head on to serious relationship and in most cases marriage. This is what I term the world way of getting their fulfillment in relationships eventually leading to their marriages. My question here is this; if this is the way the world have their way into their kind of fulfillment in relationships especially marriage, what then is the God’s way to this, or are God’s children free to do the same as the world?

God bless you!
