Thus says the LORD: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the LORD. For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, And shall not see when good comes, But shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, In a salt land which is not inhabited. Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, And whose hope is the LORD. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit. [Jeremiah 17:5-8]

Welcome to a new series! The world of men is inhabited by people of different status and lifestyle. In every society, there is always an invisible line separating the rich from the poor, the wise from the foolish and so on. Amidst these naturally occurring happenings of life, there lies a tendency for a man to depend solidly on the mercy shown by another person, who is definitely better status-wise. It is important to note that believers, who are ambassadors of the commonwealth of Heaven lives in this same world. There living in this same world also poise a possibility of them reflecting and imitating the culture and practices of their fellow men which might actually be against the norms and codes of the Kingdom they represent here on earth. The bible stands as the direct and absolute guide of believers while on earth, in it contains the details of their codes of living and how to fully execute their duties as ambassadors of the Kingdom of God. One of the codes guiding their endeavor on earth is what we are to consider in this series. The subject of trust. To whom do you place your trust? The bible gives a clear picture and verdict about two definite path of trust that men ventures in; trusting man or trusting God. The verses above carries a symbol and iota of the words that came out of the mouth of God Himself “Thus says the LORD”. This already immortalize everything else that comes after those four words. God seems especially interested in who man places his trust which also implies who man runs to in times of trouble and lack. The Psalmist said in Psalms 121:1-2 “I will lift up my eyes to the hills, from whence comes my help? My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth”. Here, we saw King David, the Psalmist declaring to whom his trust dwells. As a king over God’s special people, David declared that, against the popular custom of his day to look up to the hills and seek help from the safe house that is usually situated on the top of the hill through human wisdom to serve as a shield for Kings and the nobles in times of war and battles, he chose to find help from God instead of all that! The reality of the show is this, we all need help at one point or the other in our lives, whether rich or poor! Something that serves as a leverage for everyone in the world is the reality of tribulations and challenges. It happens to everyone! What makes us different is therefore our system of response to the challenges of our days. The rich ones in their craftiness already prover certain links in place to help them out in times of trouble. Some of these things are money, power, influence, etc. on the other hand, the poor are usually helpless as they are limited to the help links they can find for themselves due to lack of cash and other amenities. The bible brings a more lasting and rather peaceful solution to the problems of this world. JESUS, the begotten Son of God is the answer to every life challenges.

While Jesus was living on earth, He displayed without limit His supernatural ability to put an end to every challenge and bad situations that life may offer man. His teachings, miracles, healings and lifestyle depicts a life void of limitations and bounds of darkness. Jesus showed us the picture of the possibility of a life full of freedom and peace anchored on absolute and sincere trust in GOD. In times without number, Jesus explained how impossible it is for Him to do all that He did without the absolute assistance of the Father who He said resides above in heaven! Jesus Himself in all His power and wonders actively depended on The Father for all that He did; and by so doing, He showed us how to live. Acts 10:38 explained something about this “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him”. This therefore became the example and life-picture of every believer, to walk in the ways and patterns of Jesus so as to experience all that the coming of Jesus brought to the world. Trusting God is not an option for every believer, it is the accepted way of life.

The system of help in times of need that was explained above is very important. God is interested in who helps you in times of trouble. He is interested in who hears your cry and decides over the affairs of your life. the anchor scripture of this series stated above explains God’s verdict on matters pertaining to trust. Any man place his trust in man stands cursed and at the mercy of God’s fiery judgement. The concept of trust is designed in a mysterious way. Whoever you trust becomes your symbol of help. The person becomes the object of your allegiance and total dependency. How then do we think the creator of the heavens and the earth, the creator of man himself reacts to matters pertaining to whom The King over all His creations places trust? God is sovereign. His Kingdom is eternal. He is the King over ALL. It will be an action of total bribery and harlotry for any believer to forsake God and start to place trust in mortal men. God will never be quiet on this issue. God deserves all of our praise and reverence without hesitation.

King David, the man after God’s own heart depict the picture of a lifestyle of total trust and dependency in God. His Psalms explains the reason for his flawless victory in the battles of life in the days of life. he lived in God’s trust. In Psalm 20:7-8, He declared “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses, But we will remember the name of the LORD our God. They have bowed and fallen; But we have risen and stand upright”. In times of battles of life, the one that you trust is who you will remember! David said, while others remember the symbols of their strength and hope such as chariots and horses; he only remembered the NAME OF THE LORD,HIS GOD! if the first thing that comes to your mind when there is an attack on your home is the pistol inside your drawer, then you truly do not know the Lord. Man was fashioned not to forget to whom his life is anchored. If God is truly your symbol of safety and help, it will show in your results like David. You will rise and stand upright from all your challenges no matter how deep you fell! But if your trust lies in perishable things of this world or another fellow man, get ready for a frustrating life! the Psalmist said, “…they have bowed and fallen!”. Do it the God’s way or enjoy what life offers those that fail to trust God.

If God is truly your symbol of safety and help, it will show in your results like David.
